David Harrison is Senior Vice President, Design at Related Companies.
Mr. Harrison is an architect who has worked for both prominent architectural design firms and major real estate development companies. Licensed as an architect for 38 years, he worked closely with Philip Johnson for over 14 years at Johnson Burgee Architects in New York. As an Associate Partner, he managed the design process, construction document production and construction administration for many projects including One and Two International Place in Boston and Times Square Center in New York. For the past 23 years, Mr. Harrison has managed both the design and construction with developers. At Commonwealth Development, he organized the architects and engineers and completed the design and construction of the 4.2-million-square-foot Providence Place Mall in Providence, R.I. The major regional mall, featuring 1.7 million square feet of GLA, opened in 1999. While serving as a Senior Vice President at Extell in Boston, he supervised the design and construction of the 428-room InterContinental Boston Hotel and Residence. The project also included 130 luxury condo units. In 2007, Forbes listed the hotel as one of the 10 best in the world and was the American Hotel and Lodging Association “Development of the Year.”
In 2006, Mr. Harrison continued in hospitality development when he joined the Related Companies to oversee the construction of the 1-million-square-foot, 21-story W South Beach in Miami Beach. With 408 room luxury condo hotel rooms, the development also included two destination restaurants, Mr Chow and Solea, the Living Room Bar and The Wall nightclub. The hotel opened as a Starwood Flagship property in July 2009, winning the Marble Institutes highest honor, the Grand Pinnacle Award. Moving to West Palm Beach, Mr. Harrison supervised the design and construction process of the 400- room Hilton West Palm Beach. Opening in 2017, the Hotel has won many Hilton Worldwide honors. Currently he is managing the completion of 360 Rosemary, a 20-story office building, the design of the 575 Rosemary mixed-use residential tower, 375 Rosemary, a two-tower mixed-use, 14-story development and the design of One Flagler, a 25-story Class-A office designed by architect David Childs of SOM.
Mr. Harrison holds a B.Arch in Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin and he continued with graduate studies at the Architectural Association in London. He is a licensed architect in both Texas and New York and is a member of the American Institute of Architects. He is a member of the Dean’s Council at the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin.
